         Im Rahmen des SPIRAL2 Projekt wird eine Einrichtung für die Erzeugung von exotischen Kernen mit großem Anteil an Protonen und Neutronen bei einer Vielzahl von Massen. Ein supraleitender linearer Beschleuniger (LINAC) wurde gebaut und wird einen starken stabilen Ionenstrahl liefern. Targets aus unterschiedlichen Werkstoffen werden mit diesem Ionenstrahl für Grundforschung in der Kernphysik und interdisziplinäre Forschung beschossen. Durch die induzierte Reaktionen (Spaltung, Fusion, etc.) werden große Mengen von exotischen Kernen erzeugt.

         Die Anlage befindet sich im Gelände von von GANIL (National large heavy ion Accelerator) in Caen, Frankreich. Der Beschleuniger und 2 Experimenten sind bereits gebaut und befinden sich in Inbetriebnahme.

         Die SPIRAL 2-DESIR (Disintegration, Excitation and Storage of Radioactive Ions) Einrichtung wird der erzeugten Ionenstrahl von Spiral2-S3 oder von der bereits existierende Anlage Spiral1 zu den Experimenten führen. In der Strahlführung werden elektrostatischen Steerer eingesetzt.
