         Die erfolgreiche Bewerbung für die kleine Gartenschau „Natur in der Stadt – Lindau 2021“ und die geplante Entwidmung von Bahnflächen im Bereich des Inselbahnhofs sowie eines großen Parkplatzes veranlasste die Stadt Lindau ein kombiniertes Wettbewerbsverfahren für die Entwicklung der sog. Hinteren Insel durchzuführen.

         Durch die Verbindung von Städtebaulicher Rahmenplanung mit der Planung der Kleinen Gartenschau kann der Westen der Insel Lindau zweiphasig aufgewertet werden.

         Den Auftakt bildet dabei die Realisierung der temporären Anlagen der Gartenschau. Nach der Gartenschau können die freiwerdenden Flächen der temporären Anlagen für die städtebauliche Entwicklung der hinteren Insel genutzt werden. Die im Rahmen der Gartenschau realisierten Daueranlagen verbleiben und sind dann Teil des Freiraumsystems der Insel.
